April 2010 – The Barbican
After saying that this memoir would be a lot of gigs and sports events
and suchlike let’s start with some art. Not paintings (although they may
well feature somewhere down the line) but an art ‘installation’.
This was no shark in formaldehyde-type installation either. Artist Celeste Boursier-Mougenot had turned the Curve room at the Barbican into an aviary with a difference, that difference being that guitars and cymbals were set up and wired to speakers. As the Zebra Finches
landed or attempted to build nests on the instruments so the music rang
around the room. There was much happy chirping from the birds too.
It was brilliant! Mrs G and I left with big smiles on our faces – as did
just about all the people I saw during the time we were in there. I
would have happily prescribed a visit to this for anyone down in the
dumps. Take a look at the video to get an idea of what this was like.
