The Fall: The $500 Bottle of Wine

Track of the Week - 6 September 2015

A first for me this week - I went to a wine-tasting. Now I'm not a massive wine drinker but as it was raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and with lots of my work chums I thought it might be fun.

It was fun. Thankfully the host for the evening was very matter of fact with his wine descriptions. There was none of this 'it reminds me of sausage bap I ate at a bonfire party I went to when I was 11' or 'it tastes like the pointlessness felt by a mime artist when he wakes up in the morning'.

What did I learn? I prefer some wines to others and I don't have a great nose or palate. And I need a wine song this week...

So here are The Fall (again) from the 1994 album Middle Class Revolt. The bottle in question* was apparently a gift to the band by some American goth fans on a tour to the States. (And you didn't expect me to pick UB40's murdering of Red Red Wine did you?)

~ Parental Guidance warning - if you get to the end there's a swear.

* we didn't have anything more than about £17 - a long way from $500 at today's exchange rate.
