Track of the Week - 28 February 2016
Some of you may think of this track as an empowering catchy seventies classic. Others will see it as an example of the sort of dreadful disco rubbish we're well rid of. If you know me or have been reading these entries over the past year and a bit you'll probably know which camp I'm most likely to be in. So why choose it this week? Read on...
This week I was co-hosting a quiz night with my friendly colleague Rachel for our department at work to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support. (Those are links to donation pages - that's a hint.)
After a fair bit of preparation we chose to open proceedings with a 'guess the lyric' round. At some point in the discussion though we decided to have a mock argument before the round started.
In short, I would embarrass Rachel over a mistaken running order, she would accuse me of doing no work towards the whole evening, I would offer to leave and she would say "Go, now go. Walk out the door" etc. teeing up question one.
We seemed to get away with it and the whole night was a success*, raising over £1,500 for the charities. So to remind me in years to come of a great night of fun and fundraising here's Gloria Gaynor's 1979 chart-topper. Do with it what you will.
*Other friendly colleagues, especially Tash, did the hard yards of getting the evening on and pushing the tickets. We mostly just read stuff out.
