Track of the Week - 17 April 2016
I went to the opticians a couple of weeks ago and found out that my eyesight has deteriorated enough that I should get a new pair of glasses.
This isn't a new thing, I've been wearing glasses since I was six or seven* but it's getting more difficult to find a pair that suits. Because I'm so short sighted I need work done to make sure they don't look as thick as milk bottle bottoms. And smaller frames suit my face better. And smaller frames are out of fashion.
So I still don't have my new glasses and I'll have to through the whole boring trying on thing again another day.
The upside of this woe is that I can use this song from poet John Hegley and his sometime band The Popticians. From a John Peel session in 1983 it's listed as Hello Everybody but is a song about wearing glasses. The best song about wearing glasses I've heard. At last, someone understands.
I can only find the full John Peel session so forward to 3:10 if you can be bothered to watch.
*Seeing very young children wearing glasses makes me sad. Perhaps this is why.
