Track of the Week - 12 May 2019
We were up in Staffordshire yesterday for a meeting of a group that Mrs Tea at Johnny's joined recently. It should be a fairly easy drive but I managed to miss a junction on the way home adding 15 minutes to the journey. Bah!
Taking that wrong road at least means I can bring you this Wrong Road. It's from Australian indie rock/pop outfit The Go-Betweens excellent fourth studio album Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express, and is a wonderful five minutes.
The band had written some great songs in their early career and in 1986 Liberty Belle brings it all together. It's a terrific album from start to finish. The Wrong Road is such a beautiful, sad song. The strings on it bring the melancholy home.
Whenever I think about doing a bit of creative writing I never get very far because I know that I can't possibly be as good as songwriters Robert Forster and Grant Mclennan were on this record.
"In the disjointed breaking light
The soft blue approach of the water
Makes a sound you won't forget
I took the Wrong Road round"
