Track of the Week - 21 July 2019
A friend of mine had a spare ticket for New Order's gig at Bristol Harbourside this week and I was willing and able to take him up on the offer and head down there with him and his two sons.
After The Wedding Present, New Order are the group I've seen play live the most. The first time would have been 1982 I reckon (at Deeside Leisure Centre as part of the Futurama 4 festival) but I haven't seen them since 2005 when Peter Hook was still with the band.
I was a bit worried that I'd miss his idiosyncratic bass style but I needn't have worried. It was a great show with newer songs, classics and five Joy Division songs in the set too.
While Plastic (from 2015's Music Complete album) would be a way short of my favourite song by the band it was great on the night and is damned catchy! As we were also wondering if our journey into Bristol would be hampered by the Extinction Rebellion roadblock protest it's probably apt as well!
