Track of the Week - 3 November 2019
This week I went to a local theatre with Mrs Tea at Johnny's and a couple of good friends to see a talk by renowned Beatles expert Mark Lewisohn.
The show, named Hornsey Road, was about the band's Abbey Road album. Lewisohn's research is forensic, and as well as discussing what the fab four were up to in their lives that year he had isolated vocal and music tracks and images of the inspirations behind titles and songs.
The one that really stuck with me was for Mean Mr Mustard. This John Lennon composition of just over a minute sounds a little throwaway ditty about a made up mean old man. In fact Mr Mustard was a real person who hit the news in 1967 when details of his divorce were made public.
Lewisohn had images of documents about him as well as pictures of two his houses! Great stuff. If you love The Beatles and/or research it's well worth a look.
Here's the song (the 2019 mix of it) which will never seem the same again after this week.
