Joy Division: Decades

Track of the Week - 29 December 2019

As we reach the end of the 2010s there's a lot floating around about the last decade. Understandably.

Film of the decade, person of the decade, album of the decade, quiz of the decade, teams of the decade - you name it. I'm much less interested in that stuff than I was when I was younger.

Maybe it's getting older, maybe it's not remembering what was when so well or just caring less about the numbers on the calendar. (I was 20,000 days old earlier this year, shouldn't that be worth celebrating? No cards, no cake...)

A song for all the decades is Decades by Joy Division. The last track on Closer, the album released in 1980 shortly after the suicide of singer Ian Curtis, it's sad and magnificent.
