Stereolab: Ping Pong

Track of the Week - 1 March 2020

Mrs Tea at Johnny's has needed to pop into the town centre this past couple of weeks and while we were there we made our way to the 'Ping Pong Parlour'.

Table Tennis England have used some empty shop space around the country to promote er... table tennis and people can just turn up and have a knock about (providing the balls are intact and the bats haven't been vandalised). It's an excellent way to spend time waiting for the shops to open.

I don't know much Stereolab output but I know I like this*. Ping Pong was the lead track on a 1994 EP for the Anglo-French electro indie-pop combo and somewhere in my record collection is a 10" vinyl copy. (Get me.)

It only made number 45 in the charts but was a deserved number nine in John Peel's Festive Fifty.

* French Disko is excellent too.
