Track of the Week - 6 September 2020
I needed to pop into the town centre this week to pick up some trophies that had been engraved. Well, not quite the centre - the fringes of the centre. It's a pretty run down place at the moment.
What used to be a large music shop that became a sandwich shop some time ago is closed. What was a carpet shop for donkeys' years that turned into a pub is boarded up. Newsagents and second hand shop, metal screens in front of the windows. It's sad - it's becoming like a ghost town down there.
And no better song about that than Coventry ska revivalists The Specials 1981 number one. Ghost Town was single of the year in the NME, Melody Maker and Sounds. Apparently it's had a bit of a resurgence on streaming sites this year. Still relevant and still brilliant after nearly 40 years.
