Track of the Week - 8 November 2020
There have been problems with the boiler at Tea at Johnny's Towers this week. It sprung a leak. #ExcitingTimes
An engineer visited on Wednesday and thought he'd fixed the issue by 'tightening a nut' but it was leaking worse by Saturday. He's been back today and spotted a broken bit. It'll be fixed next week.
As I couldn't think of a song about a boiler off the top of my head the closest I could get is The Human League's Being Boiled. First released in 1978, it was the group's debut single. (A re-release made the top ten in 1982.)
Hearing the song again it seems amazing that this dark, sparse synth-pop offering is only three years from the monumental-selling Dare and the hugely popular singles run from around that time. (OK, there was a big personnel change in 1980 but still.) (Hearing it again also made me think that Visage must have listened to it before writing Fade to Grey.)
