Track of the Week - 31 January 2021
I was out for a Government-sanctioned walk this week when I saw a van with a name and initial of someone I used to play football with 20-odd years ago. I couldn't tell if it was our former oft-drunk, fighty goalkeeper that was up a ladder replacing some tiles on a roof and I didn't want to interrupt his work.
What I could tell was that he was singing the chorus of Depeche Mode's 1990 number six Enjoy The Silence. (It's also on the 1990 album Violator if you're more of an album person.)
It was a surprisingly uplifting moment. For that brief few seconds I had a connection with someone outside of my permitted circle. There was a thought that perhaps, in the not-too-distant future, like-minded strangers will gather again at gigs or sporting events and suchlike to share in something bigger.
Thanks man up ladder. This is for you.
