This week I went to a sports quiz with some good friends of mine. Of course the quiz environment gives you the opportunity to impress with some great answers but also to make shocking mistakes that you will be reminded of for a long time. Mine came in the tennis round.
Defiantly, I asserted that a quote about 'not swinging like an 18 year-old any more' or words to that effect were from Serena Williams (her 'retirement' speech in fact) and I would not listen to any debate on the matter. Emma Raducanu was the correct answer. At the end of the quiz it didn't make the difference between winning and losing thankfully, and a lot of money was raised for Swindon & Gloucestershire Mind. No real damage done apart from being the butt of jokes for months to come!
Therefore it seemed like an 'Emma' song should be the selection this week. Without any immediately springing to mind I had to take to Google. I narrowed it down to this or Emma by Hot Chocolate. Cautiously, I decided to go with something I didn't know for a change. Errol Brown will have to wait his turn.
Bon Iver are an American indie folk band and For Emma was a 2008 single. Exciting it isn't but there's something interesting about it. Not sure if it's a bit Beatles-y or the vocal reminds me slightly of Ass Ponys but I might yet listen to more by the band.
