I've written previously about attending an annual sports quiz with some very good friends of mine - we went again this week. It's a fundraiser and this year the beneficiaries were Alternative Angels and the Injured Jockeys Fund.
We thought we had a chance at the break being just three points off top spot but we slipped away in the second half, ultimately finishing ten points behind the winners in about tenth place
But that's not what I'm focusing on this week. There was a raffle before the final results were announced. Do you find it frustrating when numbers are being called and they're not even picking out the colour of your tickets? That was happening.
And then, out of nowhere, "Blue - 968", came the call. I acknowledged with a loud 'yes' and a wave of the ticket but as soon as I stood up there was clarification from the caller. "Sorry, its actually blue - 896." Hey, not my lucky number after all but we got a good laugh out of it.
Lene Lovich had a top three hit in 1979 with Lucky Number. Her unique vocal plays perfectly against the band's angular new wave backing. (Although if I'm pushed I prefer the follow-up single Say When.)
