A couple of weeks ago I mentioned my picking up a guitar and trying to learn to play. I have at least elevated my attempts from 'terrible' to 'really not at all good' this week.
I don't know if the way I hold the instrument is correct or if the angle of my fingers is what it's supposed to be. And is it supposed to hurt your fingertips?
I can't imagine that Fingertips by They Might be Giants is about guitar string-based discomfort. It doesn't seem to be about anything at all. It's a collection of 21 snippets of other 'songs'. The fact it comes together into one, kind of, coherent tune is testament to the skill of John Flansburgh and John Linnell.
It's from the terrific 1992 album Apollo 18. Enjoy.
