Mrs Tea at Johnny's' place of work had an open day this week. I went along. She works in an archive so there's plenty of interesting old stuff about if you like that sort of thing.
She was demonstrating paper conservation during the day and in the same room was a collection of stereoscopes. They had some of the earliest models, continued through those View-Master versions you might remember from the 1960s and 70s, right up to the present day versions. The 3D images they create still make an impression.
Scopes by goth rock, post-punk combo Bauhaus is basically singer Peter Murphy reeling off names of various scopes while the backing vocals are just the band shouting 'scopes' but he doesn't mention a stereoscope disappointingly. It was a b-side of 1980 single Terror Couple Kill Colonel. It's strange, in a good way.
