Track of the Week - w/e 13 June 2015
I watched a very good BBC4 documentary about Joy Division recently which made me want to read a specialist magazine about Joy Division. Catching up with old cassettes in my car this week I was listening to some Joy Division so it seems appropriate to give you some Joy Division.
They were one of my favourite bands when I was 16/17 even though their singer, Ian Curtis, had committed suicide by then and the rest of the band were finding their feet as New Order. Joy Division's dark, brooding and yes, miserable music fitting the mood of the time (and my mood for that matter) perfectly. As they said in The Simpsons; "making teenagers depressed is like shooting fish in a barrel'.
'Novelty' was a particular favourite, the B-side of a great 1979 single, 'Transmission'. (This version is a re-mastered effort from 1991 I think. It's cleaner than the original). The lyric "what you gonna do when the novelty has gone' seems to fit the part after I've been doing this for five months!
And my answer to the question - keep going!
