Track of the week - 15 November 2015 (part two)
After yesterday's reflection on horrific events in the wider world it's time to get back to the small things in life and a return to the 'diary of a no-name' theme.
I never mind a bit of karaoke now and again but this week a work party knocked that up a notch. How about karaoke with a live band? How about Rockaoke? It was magnificent fun. They are a superb band and if you want a party with a difference I heartily recommend them. As well as this selection (chosen as it was the first one I took on) I also gave Pulp's Common People a verbal kicking as well as ruined a couple of others.
In my humble opinion (as they say on the internet) I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, Arctic Monkeys debut release from 2005, is the most important single of the last 20 years or so. It packs more excitement into three minutes than the vast majority of chart acts manage in their careers. It didn't so much breathe life into the flagging UK indie rock, post-punk scene as stick 10,000 volts through it, Dr. Frankenstein style.
(That wasn't completely a good thing, it kick-started the careers of some awful lightweight provisional imitators.) As for my imitation, I hope I didn't treat it too badly but here's the real thing.
