The Brat: Chalk Dust - The Umpire Strikes Back

Track of the Week - 12 June 2016

This week we had a work department barbecue and drinks at a nearby playing field. Also at the event there was a small rounders tournament and I, in a weaker moment, agreed to be the umpire.

I was slightly anxious on the day because I haven't played or watched a game of rounders in about 40 years and had little grasp of the rules*. After a bit of swotting up I think I got away with it**. It's amazing how much authority a man with a hat and a clipboard who shouts in kind of the right the places can carry.

So track of the week is this 'comedy' effort by The Brat (actor Roger Kitter) which cashed in on tennis superstar John McEnroe's bad on-court behaviour and shoutiness. It got to number 19 and stayed in the charts for eight weeks in 1982 would you believe.

* You can score half rounders now! When did that happen? And what's that about?
** People not really caring helped too.
