Spot 1019: Taste the Feel

Track of the Week - 7 August 2016

Do you have those moments where you figure something out and briefly think you're brilliant and then realise you could have done that thing ages ago? This song is one of mine.

A year or so ago I was running through some old cassettes in my car. One I couldn't play was an old compilation of my favourite tracks from an old friend (Hi Colin) who used to live in America and would send tapes of his favourite tracks back.

The reason I couldn't play it is because I no longer have it. I lent it to Colin at some point and haven't seen him for years. All I have is an empty cassette case and a track listing.

I'd looked for this on the internet a few times without success, I didn't even know how Spot 1019 spelled their name (.10:19? Spot ten-nineteen? etc.), and there's an added problem of a Coca-Cola campaign being called 'Taste the Feeling' which takes over the search results somewhat.

But finally I found it this week. A song that had only played in my head for fifteen years or more was suddenly brought back to life. And as I basked in my cleverness while it played on a well-known video hosting website it suddenly clicked, 'why didn't you just find all the songs* on here and add them to your favourites list years ago, you numpty?'

So that's what I'l do when I get round to it but the first one on there will be this punky little gem**. All I know about the band is from their Wikipedia page which I found this week too so you're not getting any more info.

My thanks to the person who posted it and if you need any more incentive to view it comes with a bizarre piece of surveillance camera footage from that person's neighbourhood. If you have a better one minute 45 seconds this week then well done you.

* Like '88 Lines About 44 Women' by Nails and 'Have a Nice Day' by Roxanne Shante or even 'Glenda and the Test-Tube Baby' by Toy Dolls. I could go on.

** I owe Colin an apology about the opening line. He was right about what the three college drop-outs were doing and I was wrong.
