Track of the Week - 11 December 2016
A couple of months ago I had this conversation with my mum.
Me: "What do you want for your birthday, mum?"
My mum: "I'd like to go to the tip."
Me: "I can take some stuff to the tip for you."
My mum: "I'd like to come with you."
Or along those lines anyway. You get the picture. This week I delivered on the birthday request and took her to the tip where we disposed of some electrical rubbish. Well I say we did, i mostly took it out of my car and gave to her to throw into the skips below. She had a nice time and might now have a new hobby.
So on the subject of rubbish here's Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine (to give them their full name) with their single Rubbish (or perhaps R.u.b.b.i.s.h depending on where you're looking) which failed to chart in 1990 but a reissue two years later reached number 14.
The rubbish in the song is not the sort to be thrown into the tip but that played on a 'cheap car stereo' but I think I can get away with that. It shows band members Jimbob and Fruitbat at the height of their powers. Full of energy, funny and clever it is anything but rubbish.
Footnote: I was there for Carter USM's first gig in 1987 at the London Astoria. We'd gone to see their previous band, Jamie Wednesday supporting The Men They Couldn't Hang, but they'd split up not long before leaving Jimbob and Fruitbat to perform with backing tapes under the name of Bob.
