Manfred Mann's Earth Band: Blinded by the Light

Track of the Week - 27 May 2018

If you've had the misfortune to read these over the last three years you may have seen tell of me going for semi-frequent eye check-ups. There was another one this week.

I'd been told not to drive to the appointment because I was going to have some eye drops before a couple of tests but I didn't know why that might mean I couldn't drive. I found out afterwards.

The drops had dilated my pupils and as I left the building and walked out into the daylight I realised I should have brought some sunglasses. I must have looked quite the sight, staggering around, eyes like saucers, shielding my eyes and staring at the ground trying to find some shade. I was temporarily blinded by the light. Thankfully Mrs Tea at Johnny's could drive me home so I could lie in a darkened room for a bit.

Blinded by the Light was written by Bruce Springsteen and was on his 1973 album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.  but I'm going with the version I know by Manfred Mann's Earth Band which reached number six in 1976.
