Track of the Week - 19 August 2018
A brown envelope from HM Revenue and Customs landed on the doormat this week. Oh no! What haven't I done properly? How much do I owe them?
On opening the envelope my fears were unfounded. The taxman owed me money - woo-hoo! Rebate time!
George Harrison was having a less positive experience when he wrote Taxman for The Beatles' 1966 album Revolver. The band's high earnings meant that they were subject to a 'supertax' which directed 95% of their income to the government's coffers.
This track documents his response to political leaders of the time - Mr. Wilson and Mr. Heath. It's fair to say he wasn't impressed.
