Frank Sidebottom: Timperley Sunset

Track of the Week - 30 September

Back from a long weekend in the North-West of England where Mrs Tea at Johnny's and I had a whistle-stop tour of some of the sights in Liverpool, Manchester and Blackpool.

While we were up that way though I was keen to go to the village of Timperley and see the Frank Sidebottom Statue. I'm a massive fan of Frank's music and comedy and it's only right that the man behind Frank, Chris Sievey, is honoured in the home town that played such a huge part in his work.

At the foot of the statue is an inscription that reads 'In memory of chris sievey, 1955-2010 creator of frank sidebottom "as long as i gaze on timperley sunset i am in paradise"'. So this week's selection is Timperley Sunset.

A (kind of) cover of The Kinks classic Waterloo Sunset there are plenty of references to Timperley and other characters in 'Frank's world'. Ventriloquist puppets Little Frank and Little Denise get a mention as do Emerson Lake the Greengrocer and Roger, the boy the next door.

(If you're a Frank afficionado the video has a rare look at a complete Little Denise, before her head went missing.)
