Shocking Blue: Send Me a Postcard

Track of the Week - 7 October 2018

I'm returning to the 'what to do with my dad's stuff' theme this week.

As I noted a few weeks ago there are some items and collections that we don't know whether they might be worth something. We owe it to him not to just throw them away or get rid of them on the cheap. One of those collections is several hundred postcards.

These mostly appear to be from the 1920s and 1930s and a lot of them are from the Kent area where he grew up. Rather than spend hours on auction websites we've been thinking about what else to do with them.

Instead of going straight to a dealer who might want to maximise their profits at our expense, my mum found a local chap who also has postcard collecting as a hobby and we took them over to him this week. He's a lovely man who has Multiple sclerosis and very limited mobility so he'll take some pleasure from looking through them and working out a rough value for us.

Looking for a postcard song this week I found this little gem by Dutch psychedelic rock band Shocking Blue. You might know them for their 1969 worldwide smash hit Venus - this is from the year before. Send Me a Postcard didn't trouble the UK charts but was well worth stumbling across.
