The Boomtown Rats: Nothing Happened Today

Track of the Week - 2 September 2018

It's been a quiet week.

So here's Nothing Happened Today by The Boomtown Rats from their 1979 top ten album The Fine Art of Surfacing.

The album came at a time when the group were at the height of their fame and looking to break America. It's a decent record with serious stuff such as I Don't Like Mondays mixed in with this more jokey effort.

It might be this switch of styles and their more commercial songs (their first nine singles all made the top 15) that mean they're somewhat (unfairly?) overlooked as an influential punk/new wave band. That and Bob Geldof who has been known to rub people up the wrong way.
