Track of the Week - 25 November 2018
While I'm not working it seems like the perfect opportunity to sort some of my old stuff out and see what can be thrown away. That meant going into the attic and getting some boxes down that have lived up there for over ten years.
There's plenty of things that are heading to the tip soon like videos and old fantasy football trophies but there's some more interesting things coming out too.
This list of my (then) favourite albums was one of the first to appear. It's likely that it was put together in 1990. I'd not long bought a house with a friend and interest rates went berserk and I was skint so I probably needed something to occupy me that didn't cost anything.
It might well be that this is a 'favourite album of the 1980s' list. Certainly The Wedding Present's Seamonsters (released May 1991) doesn't feature and that would be very near the top of any list I drew up then and now. Another clue is that Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division is a notable exception (but I can't excuse the omission of The Fall's magnificent Perverted By Language.)
Top of the pile is Come On Pilgrim by Pixies from 1987 which perhaps shouldn't be on the list at all as technically it's a mini-LP. It is awesome though and it takes its name from a lyric on this track.
Were they ever better than this?
