Track of the Week: 18 November 2018
I was at Cheltenham on Friday with my horse-racing chums for the opening day of the course's November meeting. We have a long-running 'fantasy horse racing' league which starts on that day every year so we often go along to celebrate the start of the competition. (I've found a racecard from 2004 so it's been since then at least.)
There were no competition winners on the day but I did have a bet on the winner of the first which nearly paid for all the losers that came later on the card.
The Pogues' Bottle of Smoke sums up the feeling of having a big-price winner at the races. From their terrific third studio album, If I Should Fall From Grace With God, released in 1988, it shows off the band at their Irish folk-punk best.
It is very sweary mind, so if you are offended by that sort of thing you might want to skip this one.
