Red Guitars: Good Technology

Track of the Week - 11 August 2019

One of the things I do in my spare time (well, all my time's spare at the moment I guess) is run an extremely complicated fantasy football league. It was auction week this week where the managers bid for the new players coming into the league.

Many years ago (before I ran it) everyone was local so just about all of the 16 managers could be in the same room for the auction. Now, a combination of people being on holiday and living further afield mean that we have to rely on the magic of technology for people to join in.

It can get a bit complicated with me referring to email bids, talking to people on Skype, mobile phone and landline while also having people in the room bidding. We got there and despite one Wi-fi dropout the technology behaved itself.

Good Technology was the debut single by Hull band Red Guitars in 1983. They were fixtures in the Independent charts for a couple of years before splitting in 1986.

I haven't heard this in ages but it obviously stuck with me. 35 years old, the lyrics seem applicable to life today too. Tremendous song.
