Track of the Week - 13 October 2019
I'm back from a week away with Mrs Tea at Johnny's in Lincolnshire. The Lincolnshire Coastal Country Park to be precise.
As we were near the coast we had to go and have a walk on the beach. As it's October there was no chance of going in the sea.
(Incidentally, how do people walk on the beach without trudging? Is it a footwear thing? No footwear? Type of sand?)
The Revillos were born out of Edinburgh punk/new wave band The Rezillos who had one top 20 hit (Top of the Pops) and one that should have been (Destination Venus) in 1978, before splitting later in the year.
Rezillos singers Fay Fife and Eugene Reynolds asked to be released from their contract. The record company agreed as long as they didn't keep the same band name. One letter changed later and the Revillos were go.
On the Beach is from their 1980 album Rev Up. I didn't pick it up there but on a record label compilation called Dindisc 1980 which also features Martha and the Muffins, The Monochrome Set and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.
It's a beautiful song in the style of the great 1960s teenage tragedy numbers.
