The Cure: The Walk

Track of the Week - 3 May 2020

Another in the 'song for our times' vein.

I've never been a runner, I've ridden a bike once in about the last 30 years so my daily government-approved exercise is a walk with Mrs Tea at Johnny's.

We tend to go out early so it's generally fairly peaceful. A car might interrupt the birdsong, there may be a hello to a dog walker - that's about it.

We don't go out after midnight and there certainly isn't a 'howling woman' like in The Cure's The Walk. The band were coming out of a darker 'goth' phase and heading into more poppy commercial territory when this came out in 1983.

It reached number 12, their highest placed single at the time. It's good but I'll spare you the near eight minute version.
