The Undertones: Listening In

Track of the Week - 26 April 2020

One of the things that's lifted my spirits during these interesting times we're living through has been online album listening parties. Specifically #TimsTwitterListeningParties hosted by former Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess.

It's a simple idea beautifully delivered. At a certain time you put an album on while people involved in writing, recording, producing or all of them tweet about how they put the record together.

Recently I've joined in for New Order's Power, Corruption and Lies, The Pogues' Rum, Sodomy and the Lash, Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, and The The's Infected.

Coming up this week are the likes of Teenage Fanclub, Heaven 17, New Order (again) and Sleeper. You can find the full list at Tim's Twitter Listening Party.

Perhaps it's my age but there's a joy in listening to a record at the same time as other people and sharing your thoughts about what it means to you and how it and the artist is a part of your life.

The choice this week haven't featured yet but Listening In by Northern Irish punk/new wave band The Undertones is from their excellent self-titled album released in 1979.
