Track of the Week - 18 October 2020
I went out this week. In the evening! I know!
I had an excellent curry and catch-up with some old (in both senses of the word) friends, most of which I hadn't seen since before lockdown. It put me in mind of this Fall lyric:
"I used to stay in my house and never go out
but now I'm stepping out, stepping out"
So that's the song I'm using this week. It was recorded for the 10" compilation album Short Circuit: Live at the Electric Circus.
The album was recorded over two nights in October 1977 (and released the following year) to mark the closure of the Manchester music venue. The Fall featured alongside other Manchester luminaries like Buzzcocks, Warsaw (later Joy Division), John Cooper Clarke and Steel Pulse.
It's a long way from a Fall classic but as it's the first time the group appeared on record (along with another track, Last Orders) it deserves an airing.
