The Dickies: Rosemary

Track of the Week - 28 February 2021

A bit of milder weather this week meant it was time for the first garden tidy of the year. (Well, we haven't had a garden-based song for months.)

One of the jobs was cutting a dead limb off the rosemary bush at the front of the house. (Is it a bush, plant, shrub? Wikipedia says shrub and they wouldn't deceive me, surely.)

Anyway, it means we can have Rosemary by The Dickies this week. The California punks were one of my first favourite bands after I heard their hundred miles an hour cover of the Banana Splits show theme tune back when I was much younger.

They made a host of great singles but disappeared off my radar after the underrated Gigantor failed to trouble the charts in 1980. They were brought back into my consciousness by an old colleague friend (if you read this, hi Colin) towards the end of that decade.

Rosemary is the opening track from the really rather good 1983 album Stukas Over Disneyland. At the pop-punk end of their work it's well worth two minutes and ten seconds of your time.
