Track of the Week - 21 March 2021
I wanted something to represent the fact it was census day.
Our House by Madness was the obvious choice but I used that about five years ago. Mrs Tea at Johnny's suggested XTC's Senses Working Overtime (census working overtime! - gedditt!!??) but that was a selection last year.
So I've merged the two suggestions to come up with an XTC song with 'our house' in the title. I don't know if there's an 'Are there any thugs in your house' question on the census but I'll be ticking 'no'.
No Thugs in Our House is from the 1982 album English Settlement and was a single that failed to trouble the charts. Travesty.
(The pay-off in the song is of course that there was a thug in the house. I'm certain that's not the case here.)
