Prince and The Revolution: Sometimes It Snows in April

Track of the Week - 11 April 2021

I'm afraid you're going to have to indulge me with another weather-based track. After last week's hottest March day for 53 years, this week we had snow. I thought the juxtaposition was worth a mention.

So I'm being obvious with Sometimes It Snows in April which is from Parade, the 1986 album by Prince and The Revolution which was also the soundtrack to the film Under the Cherry Moon.

I've never seen the film, it seems to have gone down badly, but for me the album is Prince's finest. The mid-80s saw his best work and Parade is the peak.

Sometimes It Snows in April closes the record. It's a quiet, understated, reflective song so don't expect any of the usual guitar virtuosity from his Royal Purpleness. Recorded 31 years to the day before Prince's untimely death in 2016, its re-release put it in the lower reaches of the UK chart.
