As it was a nice week weather-wise the garden got plenty of attention. (I know, more gardening!)
The very wet May had meant that things had got a bit out of control in places. Particularly in the gravel section where weeds and grass etc. had seeded itself in places we didn't especially want it.
Some of this could be removed with a trowel but some bigger sections needed a spade through it. It needed to go in at quite a shallow angle to dig up the offending vegetation and their roots without digging through the membrane that's supposed to stop things growing through from underneath.
Was I ace with a spade? I'm not one to blow my own trumpet.
Heavy metal/speed metal band Motörhead reached number 15 in 1980 with Ace of Spades, and number 13 on its re-release in 2016 following the death of singer Lemmy.
It still makes me sit up and take notice today as it first did back in my mid-teens.
