Shuttleworth: England's Heartbeat

Track of the Week - 27 June 2021

No, not John Shuttleworth. A different Shuttleworth.

One constant over the last 35 years or so has been getting together with friends to watch the England men's football team play in international tournaments. (When they've qualified.)

That was the case this week although it's become more about having a chat with the football on in the background these days as watching disappointing performances and/or frustrating defeats has stopped being the centre of attention.

If Three Lions isn't going to inspire the team perhaps we need a new rousing song to push the team to better things.

Shuttleworth were Jenny Shuttleworth (aka Girl Peculiar), Mark E Smith and Ed Blaney. The song was recorded for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, hence references to African land and Boer ridges.

Ok so it might not be that rousing song but it has a ramshackle patriotic charm about it.

"When you're losing your dreams, hold on tight."
