Birdland: Hollow Heart

Track of the Week - 22 August 2021

Don't panic. It's not about my heart, it's about birds.

This week Mrs Tea and Johnny's and I had an enjoyable afternoon trip out to Birdland at Bourton-on-the-Water. If you like birds (and/or resin dinosaur models) and don't mind always too busy Cotswold villages then it could be for you.

The band Birdland were an indie rock group from Birmingham in the late 80s/early 90s. I was a fan and saw them once, possibly twice, I forget - it was a long time ago, and they were an excellent, super-energetic live act.

Their debut single Hollow Heart was one that absolutely made me sit up and take notice on first hearing (I'm fairly sure it was on a re-boot of the tv show Juke Box Jury, the timeline fits) and I bought it as soon as I could. It was an independent chart-topper but only made number 70 on the full chart.

Thirty-plus years on it still makes me sit up and take notice.
