If you hadn't guessed from the song title I had a game of snooker this week. First time I'd played in more than 20 years I reckon. My brother beat me 2-1 if you're interested.
I used to play a couple of times a week in the mid-eighties but was never much good. After 20 years away from the table - sheesh! It was bad but tremendous fun. Hopefully won't be 20 years before the next game.
If you watch the BBC channels every now and then you'll run into an advert for a documentary about how massive snooker was in the eighties. So massive in fact that this single could reach number six in 1986 and stayed seven weeks in the top 40. They were different times.
Cockney rockers Chas & Dave wrote Snooker Loopy which gently pokes fun at some of the leading players of the day. They were also all part of the Matchroom Sport company, hence the Matchroom Mob name.
The success spawned a follow-up the following year but the Romford Rap peaked at number 91 and is thankfully now largely forgotten.
