Track of the Week - 5 May 2022
I haven't been following the Platinum Jubilee celebrations (the cricket's been on) but on Thursday I did get to see part of the flypast as a Lancaster bomber flew quite near to where we live. It's still an impressive sight.
The track I've chosen to go with this is No Dry Ice or Flying Pigs by The Leyton Buzzards. It's one of the tracks on the b-side of their 1979 single I'm Hanging Around.
It's a fun punky little couple of minutes about their basic live performances and standing in the music business at the time*, but I've picked it for the last 45 seconds or so where one of the band members impersonates some of the sounds of a WWII bomber aircraft and crew on a bombing raid.
It's probably been 40 years or more since I heard this (my friend David had the single, maybe he taped it for me) but it's stuck for whatever reason.
* In 1980 the Buzzards morphed into pop/salsa band Modern Romance who had seven top 20 hits across the next three years. There's no accounting for taste.
