Track of the Week - 4 December 2022
We return to a weather/seasonal theme this week. December 1st is the start of meteorological winter and with the foggy days, upgrade of coat and return of scarf it certainly felt like it.
So, an excuse to roll out Winter by The Fall. It's from their magnificent 1982 album Hex Enduction Hour and closes side one (when records used to have sides). It fades out and a faded in 'Winter 2' opens side two - I can keep that in reserve if I keep doing this.
The hostel and the Maxi in the title are both referred to in the song's narrative. Singer-songwriter Mark E. Smith described the songs as "concerning an insane child who is taken over by a spirit from the mind of a cooped-up alcoholic."
So now you know.
