I found myself on a boat a couple of times this week. That's a strange turn of phrase.
'Found myself on a boat'. It's not like I was kidnapped, then left by my captors and when making my escape discovered that I was on a watercraft of some description. Nor did I have any existential kind of experience leading to a deeper understanding of myself while on a vessel designed to travel across or through water.
No. One of the occasions I was on The Thekla, Bristol's floating gig venue/nightclub (for the first time), to see the magnificent Coach Party (for the second time.) The other was a little narrowboat trip on the Wilts and Berks canal.
Both of these experiences are recommended but one is gentler and quieter than the other.
The selection this week is Ocean Colour Scene's The Riverboat Song, a top 20 hit for them during their Britpop phase. I never really got them but Mrs Tea at Johnny's was a fan and as it was our anniversary recently this can be her present.
