The Fall: Numb at the Lodge

Track of the Week - 21 January 2024

We had a few days away in north Norfolk this week. It was great to see some blue skies after what seems like months of grey, monotonous clouds

Was freezing cold though. Outside at any rate. Mrs Tea at Johnny's had found us a lovely lodge to stay at which was a very warm place to go back to after a few hours at the coast or visiting nature reserves.

It was the sort of cold wind blowing across the Wash that made your face go numb. Lodge. Numb. I could be on to a song here.

Numb at the Lodge is from The Fall's 18th John Peel session, recorded in late 1994. Mark E Smith's ex-wife Brix had returned to the group after five years away and adds an excellent backing vocal line.

It appears on the following year's patchy Cerebral Caustic album as Feeling Numb. Hard to pick my favourite version. They're both very good.
