Track of the Week - 22 October 2017
This week I helped out at a work event at Swindon's STEAM museum.
If you're into trains it's well worth a visit but is also a very fine look at social and industrial history. (Swindon's railway works at one time included the biggest covered building in Europe.)
I didn't get a chance to have a look round so I can't confirm that there's a steam hammer on show but I'm sure it's the sort of thing that would have been used somewhere in the works.
Which is fortunate as it means I can bring you Steamhammer Sam by Intaferon. This 1983 single was the second (of three) by this short-lived synth-pop duo and isn't a patch on first effort Get Out of London.
It's the everyday tale of a manual worker who loves his job, but gets given his P45 by a bloke with a moustache and glasses, turns to alcohol, loses his mind and ends up in prison. Which makes it all the more strange the video ends up with there being a great big party for the aforementioned Sam (older readers may recognise actor Jack Watson.)
Catchy but confusing.
