Cinerama: Quick, Before it Melts

Track of the Week - 10 December 2017

I need to give Mrs Tea at Johnny's the credit for this one. I woke up thinking I was going to bring you something from Peter Hook and the Light after seeing them live at Salisbury on Friday night (thanks for the invite and driving Ben.)

But then we woke up on Sunday and it had snowed. A couple of inches' worth this time, rather than the dusting we had when I last wrote about snow.

We could see it was thawing though so we made sure we got out and had a walk before it went slushy. There's something about the fresh snow - it's refreshing and the noise it makes under your feet is wonderful and connects you to the other times you've walked in fresh snow.

Cinerama are an off-shoot of The Wedding Present with singer/songwriter David Gedge wanting a more film soundtrack sound to his music rather than the indie rock of the Weddoes.

Quick, Before it Melts* is a 2002 single from the excellent album Torino. As David Gedge is the greatest songwriter on the subject of relationships (IMHO) I'm pretty sure it's not about snow.

I couldn't find the album version so here's a live performance.

* Quick, Before it Melts is also the name of a 1964 film comedy. There are a lot of film references in David Gedge songs. Far more than I know about.
