Track of the Week - 3 December 2017
Dreadful song klaxon!
I was out with some of my real friends this week and as we started on the 'what have you been up to recently' bit of the evening Simon said he'd been to a concert with his girlfriend at Bristol Hippodrome.
Instead of just letting him tell us who it was our competitive nature turned it into a '20 questions' game to find out. Two hours and about 120 questions later Ben finally cracked it - it was Dr Hook.
It wasn't that Simon misled us or anything, we just couldn't hone in on these American soft rockers. I think the fact that the singer had a beard was the clincher for Ben. If we'd have asked 'did one of them have an eyepatch' we'd have got there a lot sooner.
Dr. Hook had five top five hits in the UK between 1972 and 1980. When You're in Love with a Beautiful Woman was their only chart-topper (three weeks in November 1979). It's not to my taste but Simon had a good time which is more important.
