Track of the Week - 6 May 2018
Something a bit different this week. I've had a short story published in a book. I know! Get me!
The book is called Tritely Challenged and is part of a series of writing challenges organised by author and musician Christopher Fielden.
The book is 100 stories (150 word maximum - flash-fiction as it's known) with clichés at their heart. As someone who has written under the Man v Clichés banner in the past (must do some more) this was right up my alley.
There hasn't been a competition to get in - the first 100 stories received made it into the book. But all the same, I'm in a book!
Read it in Books is a very early Echo and the Bunnymen recording, a b-side of their 1979 debut single The Pictures on My Wall. The Liverpudlian new wave/post-punk combo, fronted by the charismatic and opinionated Ian McCulloch, would become indie music darlings in the early eighties with a series of brilliant singles and four largely awesome albums before they lost their way.
They had the world at their feet but didn't really know what to do with it. Some of their later work has kind of taken away from what should be a huge legacy and inspirational early career.
