The Wedding Present: Nobody's Twisting Your Arm

Track of the Week - 29 July 2018

This week somebody was, quite literally, twisting my arm. It's ok, I did let them.

I've been having shoulder problems for a couple of months. It's been largely ok but certain movements like putting a shirt or jacket on have caused the sort of pain that would drop me to my knees for half a minute or so.

I don't know if you're watching Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing (it's very good) but in one of the episodes Bob Mortimer dropped to the floor in pain after picking up a large pan. This rung a few bells. Bob said he had a frozen shoulder, I didn't want that so thought I'd better get it looked at.

I'd been recommended an integrated sports medicine practitioner so went off to see him. After a bit of a chat he got stuck in. Jeepers! I thought he was going to twist my arm off and beat me over the head with it! It was like a series of wrestling submission moves. And there was a bit of reflexology and even a small bit of acupuncture thrown in.

But at the end of it I felt better. I still have a bit of pain but I've got movement back. I'll take that. Apparently I was a couple of weeks from being in real trouble with it which might even had led to surgery.

Nobody's Twisting Your Arm is a 1988 single by The Wedding Present. It was the first release by the band to dent the charts (number 46!) and heralds their most commercially successful period.

I've sung their praises plenty of times on here so just hit play for some top late-eighties indie pop.
