The Young Knives: Weekends and Bleak Days (Hot Summer)

Track of the Week - 1 July 2018

If you're a UK-based reader (thank you) it's been hot this week hasn't it?

As I'm British I can talk about the weather as much as I like so it's a weather-based choice this week. I did think this track was just called Hot Summer and by the time I came to write this I was committed. (I thought it was too soon to reach for Long Hot Summer - give it a couple of weeks.)

The Young Knives (now just known as Young Knives) have brought us some excellent indie guitar music since they formed in 1998. Weekends and Bleak Days (Hot Summer) is from the tremendous, Mercury Prize-nominated, 2006 album Voices of Animals and Men.

It's a fairly simple tale of not wanting to be at work so you can enjoy the good weather (got that sorted!) until late in the piece where it briefly has some sort of existential crisis before barrelling back into the chorus again. Top stuff!
